Interview Exclusive: Lyberty
In our brief interview with Lyberty, a musician, he explains what got him into his music career, what hardships he faces as a creator, and his dedication to working and advancing his career.
Q. How long have you been making music for?
L. I've been in music for...seven years now. I started in high school.
What got you into the music industry?
L. I've always had a passion for music, I play instruments.
Q. What instruments do you play?
Bass guitar, sax, drums, and keyboard.
Q. What are the challenges you have encountered working in the entertainment industry?
L. Getting support. It's easy to be entitled, to get the support of...your friends, you learn to keep doing your thing. Be confident. You expect the people that claim they love you to support you.
Q. One thing I have learned in life is that friends will disappoint you.
L. Yes, definitely.
Q. What kind of opposition do you face in your day-to-day life?
L. Well, for example, I'm the only black person at work. It's easy to feel a certain sense of imposter syndrome. It all boils down to confidence, to knowing you are good enough.
Q. What would you say is essential to success in the music industry?
L. I'd say that the product needs to be good. (That) and you need to be consistent.
